Nurture in Nature: Embedding Nature Based Play to Support Wellbeing in Early Childhood Education

(Social and Emotional Learning)

Nurture in Nature is an Approved Provider on the Victorian Government's School Readiness Funding (SRF) Menu of evidence-informed programs and services.

Our approved training program and program inclusions (see below), support and address the SRF priority area of: wellbeing (social and emotional)

self-regulation, focus and attention
positive relationships, friendships and attachments
emotional resilience and positive mental health
social responsibility and helping skills

School Readiness Funding (SRF) is a Victorian Government needs-based funding initiative which provides funding to address educational disadvantage and build capacity of educators and families to support children’s learning and development outcomes.

PROGRAM TITLE: Nurture In Nature: Embedding Nature Based Play to Support Wellbeing in ECE (NIN)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Nurture in Nature: Embedding Nature Based Play to Support Wellbeing in ECE (NIN) is a professional development program that builds early childhood educators’ capacity to embed nature-based play into their day-to-day programs.

The program focuses on supporting educators to grow their knowledge, skills and confidence in enhancing social and emotional learning through nature-based play, and guides them in enabling children to have regular, meaningful, developmentally-appropriate and inclusive nature connection opportunities that support their wellbeing.

NIN is underpinned by research which shows that playing in nature benefits children’s social and emotional development, as well as their cognitive, language and physical skill development.

The program helps educators engage with families to help them understand how nature supports their children’s social and emotional wellbeing and transition to school.

NIN also guides educators to reflect on their connection with nature and grow their own nature connection practices to support personal wellbeing.

The program has a strong focus on helping educators develop authentic and supportive relationships with their colleagues, a broader educator network, and the wider community, helping to enhance their capacity and feelings that they are supported on their nature-based play journey.

Within the NIN Program there are 3 Packages: 1. SPROUT; 2. GROW; 3. THRIVE plus Additional Program Elements.

Additional Program Elements can be purchased as Stand Alone options or as an Addition to the 3 Program Package Options.

Each Package and the Additional Program Elements can be completed with no prior experience in nature based play or having completed a previous course or package within this NIN Program.

Travel expenses may apply for in-person program elements.

PROGRAM PACKAGES: There are 3 Package Levels: SPROUT, GROW and THRIVE

Each Package Pricing includes participation by up to two educators from the Kindergarten Service.

** Additional educators from the service can participate in the Packages. If you are interested in this, please contact us. Additional fees will apply for extra participant/s. **

** The whole of service PD sessions outlined in each Package, are open to all educators from the same service are included in the package pricing **

** There are also Additional Program Elements which can be purchased as Stand Alone options or as an Addition to the 3 Package Options. See the Additional Program Elements. **

SPROUT Package:

SPROUT PACKAGE INCLUDES:

(16-20 hours)

SELF PACED ONLINE COURSE: Strong Foundations for Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) through Nature Based Play (4 hours Video Training plus Reflective Questions)
GROUP MENTORING SESSIONS: 4 x 1 hour online mentoring and reflection sessions.
PROGRAM RESOURCES AND MATERIALS: Downloadable workbooks and program resources.
WHOLE OF SERVICE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSION (ONLINE): 1 x 1.5 hour online session ‘Supporting Children’s Social and Emotional Learning and Development Through Nature Based Play’
PACKAGE BONUS: PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY MEMBERSHIP: Twelve-month membership to ‘Treehouse Educators’ - Nurture in Nature’s online Professional Learning Community. (This is a thank you bonus for participants to grow their professional networks).

WHOLE OF SERVICE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSION (IN-PERSON): 1 x 3 hour in-person session: ‘Taking SEL Outside: Nature Based Play In Action For Supporting Children’s Wellbeing’, open to all educators from the same service. (Additional travel fees will apply. Online option available to reduce travel costs)
PACKAGE BONUS: All Access Package (individual access) to the current year of Nurture in Nature’s annual online ‘Campference’ (Lifetime access)

All inclusive of meals, accommodation, workshops and materials). Runs Friday to Sunday. (26 hours)
